Peter King

Peter King, the Prescription's cofounder along with Kerry Ryer-Parke, comes to the band with forty years of musical meanderings inspired by the swing piano of his father, Art King, and the rock guitar of his older brother, Steve King. Launching into his teens and sixties rock with a Kalamazoo electric guitar and a Supro amp, he finished that decade playing banjo at bluegrass festivals in Vermont. Though momentarily sidetracked by medical school, later during his residency in Charlottesville, Virginia he added fiddle to the mix and submerged into the Midatlantic bluegrass scene. Upon landing his first job in the Indian Health Service in Zuni, New Mexico, the inspiration to bring horns to his music struck when he convinced a former french horn player from the Stanford Marching Band to pick up the trumpet and join the hospital's rock band. And no sojourn in the Southwest is muscially complete without a tour in a country music cover band holding down lead guitar. Back in Vermont since 1989, Peter has continued to build on the legendary tradition of great horn bands with the fine work of the Side Effect Horns behind the stunning voice of Kerry Ryer-Parke.
